Event Description

The Georgia Symphony Orchestra (GSO) opens the 2nd half of the 2016-2017 Master Works concert season with Music Director Timothy Verville in a celebration of American music. America, Vol. 1 is the first concert in a new series exploring the rich tapestry that encompasses American classical music. Familiar melodies connect to America's heritage with the voices of the GSO Chorus, and Barber's iconic Adagio is unforgettable in this special setting. The audience is invited to arrive early to enjoy the music of bluegrass band “Faculty Grass”, who will perform in the lobby before the concert. The American music celebration continues, with the well-loved music of the “Georgia Spiritual Ensemble”, performed in the lobby at intermission. Musical program includes: · Hanson: Symphony No. 2 “Romantic” · Barber: Adagio for Strings/Agnus Dei with GSO Chamber Chorus · Copland: Old American Songs with the GSO Chorus
