Cobb County, Ga. (March 14, 2011) - The Cobb Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Cobb Sports Council and the Acworth Convention & Visitors Bureau are excited to announce that the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will kick off its 2011 season on May 21 at Dallas Landing Park in Acworth.
The Pro Tour is the largest and most storied professional wakeboarding circuit in the world and will feature the sports' top world-wide athletes. This tour is expected to bring in more than 10,000 participants and spectators to Cobb County.
Last year, Phillip Soven topped the 2010 standings, earning his third Pro Tour title in four years. Soven won the season-long points race after narrowly edging out teenage Australian phenom Harley Clifford 435 points to 430 points. As the defending titlist, Soven will enter the 2011 season as the top-ranked rider on the Pro Tour.
The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour, presented by ROCKSTAR, is a five-stop series points race for the Pro Tour title. Athletes accumulate points at every stop, based on placement in each contest. The highest total points-earner at the end of the five-event season will be crowned the Pro Tour champion.
Hosted by World Sports & Marketing of Orlando, Fla., the tour will continue from Cobb with three additional stops before finishing the season with a two-day event on Aug. 27 and 28 at Volunteer Landing in Knoxville, Tenn.
In addition to all the action on the water, fans will enjoy great food, athlete autograph signings, chances to win freebies and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores for wakeboard equipment and apparel. At the Pro Tour's entertainment stage, guests can catch athlete interviews, color commentators and live music.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate for $13 (general admission), $5 (ages 6-12) or free (ages 5 and under). For more information on the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour, please visit www.transworldwake.com.
